Hey Guys,
Just signed up for ps3grid, can\'t wait to get going with it. We are running Yellowdog linux, and just downloaded the application. Are there any other CELL optimized bioinformatics programs out there? We would love to get them all going! Ive done some google searching, but can\'t seem to find any except for video. Thanks!

First, YoYo@Home is not a project. It\'s a boinc wrapper for projects and all credit goes to the yoyo account.
Why not try DNET which has native support for the PS3s and uses 7 processors automatically, and gives YOU credit for the work/time/money you spend on elec.?
SIMAP will run along side DNET perfectly to. ;)
You can read more here if you like.

As stupid as this sounds, can someone explain in layman\'s terms just what a \"boinc wrapper\" is? I\'ve done some looking but this kid is having a time trying to understand just what it is and what it does. I\'ve also done a bit of stuff for YoYo and I\'m being credited for it... So I\'m kinda confused.

In a nutshell: Using the Boinc engine to send/receive work for a project that does not use or need Boinc, just for the sake of running the project under Boinc.
DNET does not now, nor has it ever needed, a Boinc wrapper, and, just happens to be the best and most reliable client ever designed and has absolutely no business being used in a Boinc Wrapper.
http://stats.Free-DC.org Show me which project and/or what team do you find YOUR stats giving you full credit for the money you spent and reflects the time you have spent working on those projects? YoYo is not a project, period.
On a side note, this forum is very hard to keep up with what\'s going on, so come join us over here http://www.free-dc.org/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=124 if you want to learn more about Distributed Computing, or how best to use your PS3 to do so. :)

Your description of BOINC projects and BOINC wrapper is not entirely correct.
A group or person running BOINC server is a project, no matter what they run.
BOINC wrapper is just that, a wrapper that goes around another application, weather it is from another distibuted computing project or any other application. It is designed for those applications for which the source code is not available to the project for modification, to allow those applciations to run under BOINC. Quite a few of the more than 60 BOINC projects use the BOINC wrapper for thier applciation.
As for yoyo and what it runs for applications, you need to discuss that in the yoyo forum on that project.
Yoyo@home does issue its BOINC participants BOINC credit, which is avaialble on BOINC stat sites and avaialble to the user to see his participation on yoyo@home and on BOINC stats sites, combined with any other BOINC projects they participate in. |

Last i heard the SETI app was still a \"proof of concept\" and was by no means fast. Has this changed? I havent been able to find much help on the SETI boards. |
